Description
Refined and broody with great precision, purity and focus but also offer up ample depth of black fruits, hints of kelp, liquorice and raisined black cherry liquor notes. The palate is powerful and intense, with piercing sweet – sour acids, rich intense salty black fruits and a long, dense, bold finish with fine grained graphitey, stony, mineral tannins. Undoubtedly a very confident, well-made Pinotage that will appeal to fine wine lovers.

Vineyard
The Single Block Pinotage is an expression of L’Avenir’s oldest and most revered Pinotage vineyard. Block 2 was planted on the highest site on the estate and benefits from a cooler mean temperature throughout the year. A daily afternoon breeze provides moderate conditions for slower ripening. The vineyard is planted on a Glenrosa type soil, comprising decomposed shale on clay. This vineyard is living proof of Stellenbosch’s viticulture trends and preferences over the past four decades. Bushvines that have been trellised bear grapes that are very close to the ground, resulting in small berries and bunches. This vineyard has never been irrigated and age, combined with an extraordinary root system, result in balanced growth and unique, flavorsome grapes.
Vinification
After being destemmed and only lightly crushed, the grapes remained in a tank for three days of cool maceration, before fermentation started through natural yeasts. The wine was matured in 300 liters French oak barrels of which about 15% were new. A selection of only the best barrels is chosen for the Single Block Pinotage.
